Once you have supplied the floor; normally a wooden deck or a stone, brick or even concrete patio or terrace, and some walls; typically a formal hedge, loose hedgerow, wall, or fence, and maybe a ceiling; a sloping roof or retractable awning or parasol attached to the house, you can go crazy furnishing your new outdoor living room. Consider some sort of heating element such as a wood burning or gas fireplace, fire pit, chimney, or portable patio heater to enable to use your new room all year round.
And while youre looking at pieces to serve as indoor benches, dont forget the classic cedar chest. Perfect for storing heirlooms, extra bedding or wool sweaters, you can add a pad to the top and voila!, instant bench for any room in your home. Flexibility is key when selecting a bench for the home. As your needs change or as you redecorate, you may find that your indoor benches will find new homes over time. If you redecorate often, keep this in mind. You may be able to give a room a complete makeover simply by moving pieces you already own around. An old piece in a new room can do wonders and indoor benches are often overlooked for this purpose.
The bathroom is another place where we rarely have enough room to store all the essentials. Add an indoor bench with deep storage, and you have a perfect place to store towels, rolls of bathroom tissue, and spare bottles of shampoo, conditioner, bars of soap, and shower gel. Even if you have only enough room for a small vanity storage bench, use the space inside to store your hair dryer, flat iron, and combs and brushes.
