The kitchen is another place where an indoor bench makes sense. In my own kitchen, I replaced the two side chairs in the rear of my breakfast nook with an upholstered storage bench. Its easy to slide onto the bench rather than move the chairs in and out of limited space. It easily fits three teenage girls so we can have more fun around the table. And the seat lifts up when I need to grab some place mats or fancy cloth napkins from their secret hiding place. Dining benches have become popular alternatives to side chairs for seating in the dining room, too.
While some die-hard sports fans dream of having indoor benches that recall the glory days of Little League or the locker room, most discerning homeowners want something that fits todays homes. And manufacturers have stepped up to the plate with delicious designs that range from highly ornate to austere.
Another tip - keep the space in mind when selecting the type of bench. Backless benches dont create visual barriers, so they work well anywhere. You can put it against a wall or at the end of the bed and it will remain visually open. If you want to add comfort, then indoor benches that have a back on them are your best option. Just remember that they may not be as flexible when redecorating.
