When we generally think of ottoman they are nothing but a low, rectangular footrest, usually upholstered accompanying an accent chair. They are used as footrest and are perfect for comfortable seating. However ottomans have outgrown its role and we now see them along with sofa sets adding new features of extra seating or an occasional table. They come is different sizes and shapes and are much higher than the footrest. Ottoman involves a combination of shape, style and function. They are padded, upholstered low-rise bench with no armrests or back supports.
Once you know what size bedroom bench you need and what functions you want the bench to serve, you need to decide how you want your bedroom bench to look. Bedroom benches come in a variety of styles, designs and materials. Some are wood, some are a combination of wood and fabric, others are metal with padded fabric seating - the selection is quite varied. Take a look at your bedroom furniture. If you have an oak bedroom set, you should probably get a bedroom bench crafted from oak as well. Your bedroom bench should compliment the color and style of your existing bedroom furniture. The right bedroom bench can greatly enhance the overall look of your bedroom environment.
And while youre looking at pieces to serve as indoor benches, dont forget the classic cedar chest. Perfect for storing heirlooms, extra bedding or wool sweaters, you can add a pad to the top and voila!, instant bench for any room in your home. Flexibility is key when selecting a bench for the home. As your needs change or as you redecorate, you may find that your indoor benches will find new homes over time. If you redecorate often, keep this in mind. You may be able to give a room a complete makeover simply by moving pieces you already own around. An old piece in a new room can do wonders and indoor benches are often overlooked for this purpose.
First lets discuss: What is a room? Basically its an enclosed space. There are walls, a ceiling and a floor, some windows and a few doors. Even if your house has an open floor plan where you have one or two large interconnected rooms, rather than a series of smaller rooms, there are areas within those large rooms that are partially enclosed, not with walls, but with elements like decorative screens, potted plants, or bookshelves. This sense of being enclosed, thus protected, is what makes a room comfortable to be in. There are other things that bring a feeling of comfort but they are secondary to this primary sense of enclosure.
Considering a garden as an outdoor room is nothing new to garden designers. The concept is just now making its way into the public consciousness. But just what are outdoor living rooms? Are they places where you try to recreate your indoor living room outdoors? No, not exactly. Are they places like your deck, patio or terrace where you just plop down a set of furniture and hope that youll feel like spending time out there? No, that wont do either. An outdoor living room is a space outside of your house, built with materials suitable to the outdoors, where you will actually want to spend time! Its also a state of mind, the idea of living life outdoors.
